“Locked,” “Paused,” and “Taking a Break”.
There are a few ways a user’s account can be temporarily disabled or hidden from others. Below is a breakdown of the differences between “Locked,” “Paused,” and “Taking a Break”.
🔒 Locked
Used when access to the platform should be completely restricted.
- Set by an admin only
- The user will see a locked screen when they try to log in
- Their profile won’t appear in searches or recommendations
This is typically used if an account needs to be suspended for policy or security reasons.
⏸️ Paused
Used to pause mentoring activity at the program level.
- Can be set by the user or an admin
- Their mentoring status is changed to "I’m not looking for mentoring"
- They won’t appear in mentoring suggestions or be able to send/receive new requests
- Their profile and preferences are saved for when they’re ready to return
This is a good option when someone just wants to step back from a specific program without leaving the platform entirely.
🌴 Taking a Break
Used to pause mentoring across all programs.
- Can be set by the user or an admin
- The user can still log in and browse, but cannot join new programs or build relationships
- They won’t receive notifications (except for critical ones like password resets)
- They won’t appear in searches or mentoring suggestions
- Their profile is hidden from other users (but still visible to admins)
- When they’re ready to return, they’ll be asked to re-confirm their mentoring preferences
This is perfect for users who need a broader break from mentoring and want to return when the time is right.
